Free e-scooter passes for frontline health workers in New Zealand

Neuron is offering a free monthly e-scooter pass for frontline health workers to help them get where they’re needed most.

The initiative has been launched to coincide with the recent national lockdown in New Zealand, it will help support the efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the cities where Neuron operates. Neuron’s e-scooters — which are recognised as a form of essential transport — will be positioned so they can be better used by public health workers, in recognition that most do not have the option to work from home.

Frontline health workers will be able to activate the free monthly pass easily through the latest version of our user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Registration takes a matter of minutes. Simply visit the Rates & Passes page and verify your work email address to redeem your free Monthly Pass. Then you can unlock and ride our e-scooters straight away.

Safety is our top priority, this is demonstrated both in its e-scooters, which have been designed for rental and safety, and also in how they operate them. The company has gained great experience of operating through multiple lockdowns in Australia and the United Kingdom, where it also provided thousands of free passes for frontline workers.

In a further effort to support the community’s response to the current pandemic, last month we  launched an initiative to assist the nation’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout, committing $100,000 to help more New Zealanders travel to their vaccination appointments. This promotion is still active and can be redeemed when the vaccination roll-out resumes, in line with the New Zealand Government’s guidelines.

Neuron e-scooters are heading to Auckland’s North Shore!

An additional 200 safety-first e-scooters are now available to rent in the North Shore.

From Friday August 6 Neuron’s e-scooters will be available to ride across more areas in Auckland, with riders able to travel from the City Centre out to North Shore. The expanded area will provide access to popular North Shore beaches, cafes and shopping precincts including Cheltenham Beach, Takapuna Markets and Victoria Road’s cafes and shops.

The expansion will offer our e-scooters as a first and last-mile transport for our riders to and from Auckland’s Ferry service, increasing the range of travel while enabling more people to visit the North Shore. Neuron riders will be able to stop at the base of Mount Victoria and North Head, scoot around Lake Pupuke and visit the Royal New Zealand Navy Museum.

Our distinctive orange e-scooters have been also embraced by locals and tourists, racking up close to 700,000 kilometres since first launching in Auckland in January 2020.

New riders can download our user-friendly app, from the App Store or Google Play and set it up in a matter of minutes. A trip will cost NZ$1 to unlock the e-scooter and then 45 cents per minute. Our subscription service, Neuron Passes, is also available for frequent riders in three-day (NZ$25), weekly (NZ$33), or monthly (NZ$45) options. Users can ride to their hearts’ content for up to 90 minutes per day for an affordable price, generating savings of up to 96%.

Neuron Commits $200,000 of Free Trips to Support Australia and New Zealand’s Vaccination Plans

The initiative aims to assist Australia and New Zealand's Vaccination roll-out plans

Neuron has announced that we will be committing $200,000 of free trips to help more people in Australia and New Zealand get vaccinated. The offer will be available to riders in all cities where Neuron operates across both countries, and applies to both the company’s e-scooters and e-bikes.

Launching on 30 July, the initiative aims to assist the nation’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout. Neuron’s $200,000 will provide 20,000 Australia and New Zealand (10,000 in Australia and 10,000 in New Zealand) with free transport to go towards receiving their COVID-19 vaccination.

To take advantage of the offer, riders will need to download the Neuron app and follow the vaccination promotion prompts. They will then receive $10 of ride coupons on their account, to go towards one round trip to the nearest vaccination centre, GP or hospital.

Neuron has a history of supporting the communities it operates in. During the first nationwide lockdown starting in March 2020, when other companies pulled their vehicles from the streets, Neuron was the only e-scooter operator to keep its service running for essential workers. As well as providing a socially-distanced transport option, the company gave away thousands of free monthly passes to indispensible public health workers, many of whom were required to travel to work during the pandemic.

Neuron e-scooters have landed in Hamilton!

With a range of world-first and pioneering safety features, Hamilton becomes the next city to launch Neuron’s safety-first e-scooters.

Our distinctive orange e-scooters have officially hit the streets of Hamilton. Working closely with Hamilton City Council, geofencing technology is being used to control the riding area and create dedicated parking zones and no-go zones in specific areas across the city to improve safety.

Riders will benefit from a range of world-first safety features and pioneering innovations on both the e-scooters and e-bikes, including: the world’s first app-controlled helmet lock which secures a helmet to every e-scooter in between trips; topple detection; a 111 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; and a ‘Follow my Ride’ function. Geofencing technology will also be used to control where e-scooters can be ridden and parked, and how fast they can travel.

New riders can download our user-friendly app, from the App Store or Google Play and set it up in a matter of minutes. A solo trip will cost NZD$1 to unlock the e-scooter and then 45 cents per minute. Our subscription service, Neuron Passes, is also available for frequent riders in three-day (NZD$25), weekly (NZD$33), or monthly (NZD$45) options. Users can ride to their hearts’ content for up to 90 minutes per day for an affordable price, generating savings of up to 96%.

Dunedin appoints Neuron as sole e-scooter operator under new permit!

Dunedin appoints Neuron as sole e-scooter operator under new permit!

Our current fleet will double in strength to 500 distinctive orange e-scooters starting next month

Neuron will be partnering with Dunedin City Council to operate an expanded fleet of 500 safety-first e-scooters from July 1. As part of the new permit, this increased capacity will enable us to better serve Dunedin’s residents as the city’s sole e-scooter operator.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. In May 2021, we launched New Zealand’s first and only third party rider liability insurance for e-scooters, in a move to protect our riders and the wider community. We also announced a partnership with national road safety charity Brake in April 2021.

To coincide with Brake’s Road Safety Week, Neuron teamed up with local disability advocacy group Access for All to organise a specialised #ScootSafe course at Otago Polytechnic. Users were reminded to ride and park an e-scooter safely and responsibly, ensuring that our city streets are accessible to all, especially for people with disabilities.

Our N3 e-scooters are purpose-built for rental and safety. They have visibly larger, 11.5” wheels and are equipped with a range of cutting-edge safety features including the world’s first app-controlled helmet lock which secures a helmet to every e-scooter; topple detection; a 111 emergency button; voice guidance to educate and warn riders on how to ride safely; a “Follow my Ride” function and many more innovations to come!
