Neuron further expands Lethbridge riding area!

Neuron extends riding zone to include portions of the city’s trail system in the River Valley

Our e-scooter and e-bike riding area is expanding into the River Valley to include the trails leading up to important tourism and cultural destinations such as the Helen Schuler Nature Centre, Fort Whoop-Up, and Indian Battle Park in the River Valley.

To help keep the pathways safe for all users, vehicle speeds will be capped at 15 kms/h via a Slow Speed Zone that is indicated in the Neuron app. Parking will initially be available in select zones within the pathway system at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre and near the playground northwest of the Baroness Picnic Shelter. Riders are reminded to park and ride responsibly by giving way to others and keeping the paths clear.

Lethbridge’s e-scooter and e-bike program has been embraced by locals and visitors since its launch in April 2022, and the riding area was expanded into North Lethbridge in under a month due to strong uptake. Thousands of Neuron riders having already travelled over 230,000 kilometres in the city to date. We’re excited to provide a new environmentally friendly way to explore the city’s beautiful trails and enjoy the outdoors this summer!

Neuron launches online ScootSafe Academy to raise the bar on rider safety and education!

Riders can access fun, interactive rider education content developed in consultation with our national road safety partners to earn free credits

We are thrilled to be launching ScootSafe Academy, Neuron’s interactive, online riding school with city-specific, training content that helps to educate riders, and also deliver targeted training modules to those who have broken the rules. The platform will provide riders in all our markets access to educational videos, quizzes, and games to help improve rider behaviour, and in turn, improve e-scooter and e-bike safety.

Safety Videos

In a first for the industry, ScootSafe Academy will go beyond traditional rider education platforms, introducing targeted education aimed at improving the behaviour of riders who have broken the rules. For example, those temporarily suspended or reported for unsafe riding or bad parking will be sent a warning and also targeted training modules specific to their violation. These include topics ranging from responsible parking, safe conduct, and a Master Quiz to refresh their knowledge on the main dos and don’ts when riding with Neuron.

Our riders can access the ScootSafe Academy through the Neuron App or via our website. By watching safety videos and attempting various quizzes on how to ride and park safely, users will receive free credits towards their future rides. The ScootSafe Game serves as a recap and tests riders on all they’ve learned – answer simple trivia questions correctly, and collect “coins” and “power ups” to improve your score!

Developed in consultation with our national road safety partners, ScootSafe Academy serves as an important digital extension of Neuron’s popular in-person #ScootSafe events, which last year trained thousands of people at 108 events worldwide. The platform will replace our in-app Safety Centre, which has helped tens of thousands of riders familiarise themselves with their local riding rules.

Neuron returns to Ottawa with its most advanced e-scooter technology!

Ottawa becomes the first city in the world to implement Neuron’s new ‘e-scooter brain’ across an entire e-scooter fleet

Neuron’s leadership in safety and innovation has earned the company a place in Ottawa’s third e-scooter season. Beginning July 6, Neuron will deploy a fleet of e-scooters fully equipped with its most advanced technologies to offer unprecedented control over how e-scooters are managed in the city.

Neuron’s High Accuracy Location Technology, Rapid Geofence Detection and Dangerous Riding Detection were extensively tested in Ottawa as part of a global trial. Ottawa will become the first city in the world where Neuron has fully implemented these innovations across an entire fleet of e-scooters. Using these technologies, Neuron can provide high accuracy geofencing, designate precise smart parking locations, and also help detect and control sidewalk riding.

The fleet will also feature an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), an always-on warning noise that alerts pedestrians, particularly those with vision loss, that an e-scooter is approaching. Last year in Ottawa, Neuron was the first and only e-scooter operator in Canada to launch a multi-month trial of an AVAS technology on over 100 devices in its active fleet – a feature that is now required by all e-scooter operators for the 2022 riding season in Ottawa.

Ottawa’s riders have embraced Neuron’s rental e-scooters since they launched in 2021. Last year, Neuron users travelled more than 240,000 kilometres in Ottawa, avoiding an estimated 18 tonnes of CO2 emissions by choosing a Neuron e-scooter instead of a car. Seventy-nine per cent of riders used e-scooters to visit restaurants, cafes, and to explore the city, while 67 per cent made a purchase during their most recent trip.

Ottawa riders can book and use the e-scooters through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes.

Neuron e-scooters are coming to Airdrie!

Airdrie becomes Neuron’s sixth city in Canada and fourth in Alberta

Residents and visitors of Airdrie will now have a new, safe and sustainable way to explore the city. Neuron will begin rolling out a fleet of 100 e-scooters to Airdrie streets beginning July 1

Joining Ottawa, Calgary, Red Deer, Vernon, and Lethbridge, Airdrie is the sixth city in Canada to offer Neuron’s service. Neuron was selected for its strong track record of partnering with cities, and its leadership when it comes to safety and innovation.

Neuron’s e-scooters are designed with a suite of industry-leading safety features — they’re visibly bigger and more robust than other e-scooters. Each e-scooter is GPS-connected and managed by geofencing technology that controls where they can be ridden and parked, and at what speed they can travel in different areas. Neuron sets no-ride zones, no-parking zones and low-speed zones to further improve safety. Voice Guidance also educates riders and delivers instructions for safe riding and parking.

In each city where Neuron operates, the service has made a positive impact on the local economy and environment. Last year in Red Deer, 38% of Neuron trips replaced a car journey, and more than half (52%) of riders used the service to commute. In Calgary, 80% use e-scooters to visit restaurants, cafes and to explore the city, while nearly two-thirds (62%) made a purchase from a local business during their trip.

Riders will be able to book and use our devices through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in minutes. Single trips will cost C$1.15 to unlock the e-scooter and 35c per minute thereafter. More frequent users will have the option to purchase Neuron Passes, a subscription service, available in three-day (C$25), weekly (C$33), or monthly (C$89) options.

Neuron is now integrated with Google Maps in Canada!

The integration is available to Google Maps users across 25 Neuron cities worldwide

We are excited to announce our integration with Google Maps in Canada, which will allow Neuron riders to easily locate their nearest e-scooter or e-bike, giving them better access to a convenient first and last-mile transport option. The integration is available across Neuron’s Canadian cities in Vernon, Calgary, Lethbridge, and Red Deer.

Riders in these cities will now be able to better plan their journey in real-time using Google Maps. The service highlights a user’s nearest e-scooter or e-bike, directions and information on how long it will take them to reach it, calculates price estimates based on selected route, and provides the battery range remaining and expected arrival time at their destination. After selecting an e-scooter or e-bike on the map, users will be redirected to the Neuron app for unlocking and payment.

According to Neuron’s rider surveys nationally, 80% of riders in Canada use Neuron e-scooters to visit local businesses and to explore cities, while 62% made a purchase from a local vendor during their most recent trip. This latest integration will help riders to better plan their journeys to work, stores, restaurants, or other local destinations.

Since launching in Canada in May 2021, Neuron’s micromobility services have been widely embraced. Across the country, rider data has shown that 46% of Neuron e-scooter trips have already directly replaced a car journey, saving an estimated 120 tonnes of CO2 emissions and over 50,000 litres of gasoline. By making it simpler than ever to ditch the car in favour of an e-scooter or e-bike and public transit, it is hoped that this figure can continue to rise over the course of this year.
