Neuron’s e-scooters arrive in Sydney Parklands heralding the start of NSW trial!

We’re thrilled to participate in the first shared e-scooter programme in NSW with 50 industry-leading e-scooters available to hire in Sydney's Parklands over a three-month trial.

From today (Saturday, 30 July) our safety-first e-scooters will be available to hire throughout Sydney’s Western Parklands over a three-month trial. We’re thrilled to partner with Transport for New South Wales and Western Sydney Parklands for the state’s much-anticipated e-scooter trials, which are expected to cover more cities over the coming months.

A fleet of 50 e-scooters will join Bungarribee Park, located behind the city’s iconic Sydney Zoo. Safety is at the heart of everything we do and we look forward to delivering a safe and efficient service for locals and visitors alike. Our e-scooters are packed with cutting-edge safety features, including the world’s first app controlled helmet lock, GPS tracking and geofences, a 000 Emergency Button and Voice Guidance. We know from experience in other cities that riders really appreciate this.

As the only shared micromobility provider who operates in every Australian capital city, we are excited to see our e-scooters bring more benefits to more parts of the country and look forward to more cities in NSW commencing trials soon. Elsewhere, our rider research shows that 85% of users believe Neuron has had a positive impact on the city – citing sustainability, affordability and convenience as some of the driving factors. We also know that depending on the city, 40-60% of e-scooter trips replace car journeys and on average seven out of 10 trips result in a purchase, helping to boost local economies.

Riders will be able to book and use the e-scooters through Neuron’s user-friendly app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes. Single trips will cost AU$1 to unlock the e-scooter and 45 cents per minute thereafter. Day passes will also be available for $15, which will allow riders to ride as much as they want with no additional unlocking fee.

Neuron launches online ScootSafe Academy to raise the bar on rider safety and education!

Riders can access fun, interactive rider education content developed in consultation with our national road safety partners to earn free credits

We are thrilled to be launching ScootSafe Academy, Neuron’s interactive, online riding school with city-specific, training content that helps to educate riders, and also deliver targeted training modules to those who have broken the rules. The platform will provide riders in all our markets access to educational videos, quizzes, and games to help improve rider behaviour, and in turn, improve e-scooter and e-bike safety.

Safety Videos

In a first for the industry, ScootSafe Academy will go beyond traditional rider education platforms, introducing targeted education aimed at improving the behaviour of riders who have broken the rules. For example, those temporarily suspended or reported for unsafe riding or bad parking will be sent a warning and also targeted training modules specific to their violation. These include topics ranging from responsible parking, safe conduct, and a Master Quiz to refresh their knowledge on the main dos and don’ts when riding with Neuron.

Our riders can access the ScootSafe Academy through the Neuron App or via our website. By watching safety videos and attempting various quizzes on how to ride and park safely, users will receive free credits towards their future rides. The ScootSafe Game serves as a recap and tests riders on all they’ve learned – answer simple trivia questions correctly, and collect “coins” and “power ups” to improve your score!

Developed in consultation with our national road safety partners, ScootSafe Academy serves as an important digital extension of Neuron’s popular in-person #ScootSafe events, which last year trained thousands of people at 108 events worldwide. The platform will replace our in-app Safety Centre, which has helped tens of thousands of riders familiarise themselves with their local riding rules.

Neuron teams up with Recovery Your Way to prove all abilities have a role in the workplace!

We’re proud to partner with Recovery Your Way to provide equal employment opportunities to people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

At Neuron, we’re proud to partner with a number of not-for-profit disability and indigenous employment services to help ensure all abilities have a role in the workplace. Together with Recovery Your Way, an organisation that specialises in supporting and coaching those with disabilities so they can strengthen their independent living skills, we are thrilled to share the story of Natasha Noakes (Tash).

Tash is a proud Merranunggu Wagiman and former wheelchair basketballer, born with dislocated hips, referred to as developmental dysplasia of the hip, and bilateral talipes, meaning her feet were turned in, which limited movement of her legs. Through our partnership with Recovery Your Way, Tash connected with Neuron and has been working as a Warehouse Support Technician in Darwin since April 2022. Tash has quickly progressed in her role and is now responsible for repairing and servicing e-scooters and e-bikes.

Recently, we spoke with Tash to hear about her time at Neuron and why being a mechanic is her dream job.

“Since I was a kid, I have always wanted to be a mechanic. My mum bought me a bike when I was younger and I would service it all the time. I have 6 sisters and 2 brothers, and I was always the first one to put my hand up to help dad work on the cars.

When I was provided with the opportunity from Neuron, I was really happy to see that the company was looking for opportunities for people with disabilities, and I was grateful they gave me a chance. They have kept me on track with what I want to do as a mechanic, and have allowed me to progress and keep reaching my full potential.

Recently I started being a Safety Ambassador at Neuron’s ScootSafe events. These events are really important and it’s great to see Neuron helping riders be aware of the impact irresponsible riding and parking can have on others.

While I do have to use a wheelchair sometimes, I feel lucky that I can walk, but this is not the case for everyone. It is important to educate people on safe riding just as we do with driving because you never know how your behaviour can affect others.“

Neuron to stay in Bundaberg with e-scooter program renewal!

Bundaberg Regional Council has extended the Neuron e-scooter program for a further 12 months

Our distinctive orange e-scooters will remain in Bundaberg and Bargara for another 12 months following a permit extension from Bundaberg Regional Council. Neuron’s safety-first e-scooters have been operating in Bundaberg since April 2021 and have been embraced by the community.

Since launching, our riders have racked up close to 800,000 kilometres eliminating an estimated 56 tonnes of CO2 by providing an alternative to short car trips. E-scooters have proven to be a popular form of transport over the 12 months, with two riding area expansions and the addition of 75 e-scooters in September 2021, bringing the total number of e-scooters in the region to 325.

We’ve seen a range of benefits since our e-scooters were introduced, from helping tourists explore their city, to extending the range of locals so they can further support local businesses. Our rider survey has shown e-scooters are boosting the local economy, 62% of rides resulted in a purchase at a business, and 24% of trips wouldn’t have happened at all if the e-scooters weren’t available.

We look forward to continuing to support the city to scoot to their favourite local spots in a safe, convenient and fun way!

Neuron and Killara Foundation celebrate NAIDOC Week

We're providing free e-scooter use to 50 program participants and staff from Aboriginal not-for-profit organisation, the Killara Foundation

This NAIDOC Week, we are delighted to partner with and Aboriginal not-for-profit organisation Killara Foundation to celebrate Australian First Nations cultures at an e-scooter workshop for Killara staff and program participants in Melbourne.

Killara is an Aboriginal not-for-profit organisation at the heart of creating sustainable employment pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia since 2019.  Through our partnership with Killara we will be providing 50 program participants and staff with unlimited, free Neuron rides in Melbourne. By increasing transport options in the city, we hope to help remove employment barriers for those within the Killara program.

Our NAIDOC Week event and e-scooter workshop ensures program participants are ready to ride e-scooters safely. The event also celebrates Aboriginal First Nations cultures with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony as well speeches from Killara Board Director, Ian Hamm.

The event complemented a series of ongoing initiatives Neuron and Killara have in place together, including creating career pathways within our company, providing cultural sensitivity training for our employees and supporting the Killara Foundation’s Year 13 Program focusing on Road Safety.

The event was an important milestone in Neuron’s Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Neuron is the first and only micromobility organisation in Australia to have a RAP formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.
